Harry Potter Party
What a fun night! Fifteen teens enjoyed a potions class, divination (tea leaf reading), spells class, wand duels, Harry Potter Jeopardy and watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on the big screen. We served Cockroach Clusters, Troll Toenails and Toe Jam, Bertie Botts Beans, Acid Pops, Butter Beer and Dragon Snot. A great time was had by all. My favorite spell cast during the wand duel was "a temporary two hour slumber" translated from the Latin. Hello - that's a nap!
Congratulations to Teressa B. who won a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the midnight drawing. Other winners include Collin P. for best costume who won a copy of "Magical Worlds of Harry Potter" and Gryffindor House (Austin M., Elizabeth K., Teressa B., Craig M.) who each won $5 gift cards from Borders.

Dewey's Devil of a Scavenger Hunt
Congratulations to Josh H. and Aaron M.! They each won a copy of "The World Almanac Book of Records" for successfully finding the most correct answers to the scavenger hunt. It was not easy, as Ben put everyone through the paces using the online public access catalog (OPAC) and common sense. Participants had to look up titles and authors, locate population data, unravel mysteries involving Norse gods, and know who is Lady Bird before knowing who and how she is related to a famous American person. Anyone else know who Lady Bird is?

Meet Your Daemon
I just found out my daemon is a tiger named Sergius and I couldn't be prouder. I like to think he wanders the earth watching my back as I trudge through the day skirting on the edge of disaster. How cool is that?
The Golden Compass book by Philip Pullman is going to be released as a movie this December. Go to www.goldencompassmovie.com to meet your daemon. You will have to click on the rabbit to the right of the screen and then answer 20 questions.
I'm taking the book home to read (I confess I haven't read it, yet) and I'll let you know what I think of it.
If you meet your daemon, let us know by posting it on this blog.

Gaming Lock-In Applause
Gracias, kudos, thank you!
I want to thank Ben, Tonja, and Steve for staying late at the library (past midnight and our bedtimes) on Friday, March 16 to supervise our first ever lock-in. What a blast! We had 29 teens arrive with their game faces on (one in a sprightly leprechaun outfit) to play Warhammer 40k, DDR, on line games, board games, and cards. We had pizza and pop to munch on and I believe a good time was had by all.
Do you want another lock-in? What kind of lock-in?
